Caribou Landscape Vulnerability Mapping for the Proposed Bathurst Inlet Port and Road

Caribou Landscape Vulnerability Mapping for the Proposed Bathurst Inlet Port and Road

A GIS-based caribou vulnerability mapping exercise to inform a cumulative impacts assessment of proposed development in Nunavut, Canada. Using a rich dataset of thousands of caribou telemetry (collar) locations over several years together with maps of vegetation types that caribou depend on as habitat, the relative risk to caribou posed by three alternative proposed road alignments were assessed. Conducted in coordination with the Canadian Arctic Resources Committee and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada.
